The Fires of Aurelius

Greetings, all!

I’m writing this post to discuss “The Fires of Aurelius,” the fourth book of the Cole & Srexx series. I reached a difficult decision this past week, but I believe it is the correct one. I’m pushing back “Fires” one final time. I don’t like that. I don’t want to do it. But the book I was writing was not my best work.

I want you to feel that any time you spend with one of my stories is time well spent. To that end, I can’t publish books I’m not proud of…books I’m not excited to put into the world. In my previous drafts, I made a number of critical, foundational mistakes with the story that made the later chapters difficult–if not impossible–to write in such a way that the story was anything other than a waste of time to read.

When I recognized these mistakes, I realized it wasn’t right to throw a book together to meet the deadline. That would be breaking faith with you, and breaking faith with you is something I strive never to do.

I was chasing deadlines with “…Till It’s Over!” and “Haven Ascendant,” instead of chasing the story. And to a certain extent, I was doing the same thing with the initial work on “Fires.”

By pushing “Fires” back one last time, I will be losing the option of making pre-orders available for one calendar year, but that is a small price to pay if it means that “Fires” becomes a book I’m proud to offer you.

I regret that it took me so far into the work on “Fires” to realize my errors, and I apologize. Sincerely.

On a related note, this will push production of “Archmagister,” Histories of Drakmoor Vol. III, back to January, and right now, I’m not sure if I’ll write “Solar Eclipsed” or “Home Sweet Home” in February. I’d like to get both series to the same point (i.e. both having four books) and then alternate between them until they’re finished, but we’ll see.

Incidentally, and just in case the question is out there, both series will have ten books. I saw a review a while back in which the reviewer asked me not to stop at five books. I never planned to do that; I just haven’t thought of the titles after Book 5 of each series yet.  🙂

Once again, I apologize that I allowed circumstances to put me in this position and thank you for your time.

I offer you and yours my best wishes for the coming weeks.

Regards,
Rob
